Harley Davidsons & Drag Queens

Here I sit, listening to the techno beat soundtrack that is my life. The drag queen next door cannot get enough of DaRude. P.S. We know he's a drag queen because on the night of the fire, he came out in a terry cloth robe, blue eyeshadow and fake eyelashes. I must say it threw me off a bit. What we really wonder is how he performs daily activities such as talking on the telephone, napping, watching television when the techno is on ALL day long without a break. I would give anything to see what is going on over there! Trust me, if you were here, you'd be intrigued too.

Yesterday we had professional development for all the Social Studies teachers in the district. I get a total kick out of my department at my school- it's a lot of kooky characters. My favorites are the two guys who call each other "commie" and "asshole," their political banter is endlessly entertaining. It was funny to see middle aged teachers cuss, yell at each other and make lewd comments. wow, teachers are human? crazy!

Today was classroom set-up day, but I had to call it quits at 3 after long hours of putting up posters, timelines, etc. The staff at my school is so funny. Another favorite has to be the man who is English teacher by day/President of the Local Branch of Harley Davidson by night. Not kidding, he wore the headband and cut-off tee to work today. Will this be regular teaching attire? Only time will tell.

In other news, I decided to assist volleyball coach. They already have an official assistant, so I will be just helping out with blocking and hitting, and anything else they want. That clutters up my cluttered schedule a bit more, but it's a really important thing to do to be a part of the school culture, and I miss volleyball like crazy, so it will be worth it I think (hope).

Monday the students come! Am I ready? Hell no. But I'm excited and nervous and all kinds of other good stuff. It's getting very real. We are all trying to activate into teacher mode as quick as possible. Something tells me tonight's Under the Sea party in which Mark and I will be wearing arm floaties and flippers will not move us in that direction.

I'm out.
