Evacuation, part deux

I cannot BELIEVE there is another hurricane! Are you kidding me? Braving the traffic to evacuate to San Antonio today. We spent the week enrolling kids, who will hopefully still be here when we get back to come to the KIPP NOW school. I will be teaching 3-5 grade social studies/language arts integrated classes. I am very excited, but life is taking some nasty turns lately. I'm trying to roll with the punches, so to speak. Evacuating can be fun, right? I'm an old pro by now. I mostly worry about the little kids who are so scared from the first hurricane.

If more crap does not get flung at me, after the hurricane i will remain in Houston for the year, teaching at the KIPP school, finding a place with Mark. Tom and several other friends are going to Baton Rouge to work in relief there for displaced families. I decided I could do the most good by teaching, though.

On the lighter side, last night was an EPIC karaoke night. Not only did I rock Gangsta's Paradise and Nothing Compares 2 U, but I signed up many a reluctant friend. Tom and Mark sang "It's raining men" which was perfect and tom and jake sang Puff the Magic Dragon. Signing wussy people up for karaoke really is almost as fun as actually partaking. Maybe even more.

So, I'm getting by. Somehow. In all this nonsense that doesn't seem to end. "The unendurable is the beginning of the curve to joy."
