The Wolf pack
Wow, what a difference one week makes. Long story short (and it is a VERY long story), I will not be teaching in a Houston public school this year. I might be teaching in a Charter school for New Orleans evacuees called KIPP-New Orleans West. That would be good if it worked out, as it will be staffed entirely with Teach for America teachers. BUT it entirely depends on enrollment, and I doubt there will be enough kids for all of us to get jobs teaching there. Another option that has come up is having us work as caseworkers for the next 3 months helping evacuee families transition back into New Orleans life. That would be great, but is super uncertain.
The hardest thing is the lack of knowledge, and super uncertainty of my future. I have really struggled with the idleness and my brain is kind of going to mush. It was a rough transition from hyper-stimulation to under-stimulation and I struggle to fill my time. Anyway, I do know the TFA people are working hard for us and I WILL have something to do, I just have to keep the faith. And that is hard at a time like this.
Today, on the KIPP academy wall (my maybe future employer) was this saying:
"The strength of the wolf is the pack. The strength of the pack is the wolf." I am making it through with my TFA family and all of your support. Stay tuned and I will try to post more often. Best wishes.
