Getting in the habit...
Okay, this is my attempt to get in the habit of writing more regularly. Just got my wisdom teeth out yesterday- not good times! But it is good to be home in Eugene, even if my trip so far involves spacing out in front of the TV and only eating whipped potatoes and yogurt all day.
I miss my kids a lot! On the last day before break, Rashad brought each of us teachers a cookie tin, all wrapped up nice! And Nicole got a candle from Jared, who said it was made by some guy in prison...uh your guess is as good as mine. A triumph of the last week was that Jared, who has been on "The Bench" (big trouble) since the bench was invented, finally got off! No more red shirt for him! It doesn't get much more exciting than that in the fab fifth grade. Except maybe the book Nicole and I have started which is a collection of notes/drawings that we have either intercepted or been given. Entries so far include a drawing of Cinderella and sleeping beauty labeled "Ms. Bliss and ms. Cummins" and a really graphic sexual drawing which no 5th grader should EVER have made. By the end of the year, the collection will be amazing!
In other news, the school is expecting a dip in enrollment after break, but I certainly hope that is not true. We lost Monique, who was in my homeroom- she finally will be reunited with her mom, who has been in Mississippi since the hurricane, while she was in Houston with her older sisters. I am happy for her, but it was really hard to say goodbye, she was one of the most mature, caring of all the 5th graders. We will miss her a lot. I really hope we don't lose any more of our incredible 5th graders.
