Where I Live and Where I Teach

Maybe the worst thing about teaching is the fact that you always feel like you should be working. There is ALWAYS more to do, and it's kind of a burden. Today I decided I was not going to work, and it's been amazing! Took a nice walk in Audobon park, had a bagel sandwich, and now I'm watching Footloose and eating gummy snacks. Maybe I"ll work tomorrow...

Yesterday was a great day- I had 30 students, two classes put together and it could have been a nightmare, but I stepped up to the challenge and it went well. The students like when we put the classes together, so they know it's a privilege they could easily lose. So we can hold it over their heads if need be. I had pretty bad days leading up until friday, which was great. Counting down the days until next weekend...Voodoo fest (Can you say Duran Duran? Ozomatli? Yes!!!) and a saints game. They are 5-1, and going is still as thrilling as the first time: )

Last night I went to the high school football game at East St. John High School....it's quite the show, with a 18 person homecoming court, fireworks, the Sugarettes Steps team, cheerleaders, 50 person band and the local train tooting its horn for every goal. I really like spending time out in rural New Orleans, it's a treat. I get to sort of experience two worlds- where I live, and where I teach. And I love them both.
