The rest of July and back to NOLA!

So I last left you when I was in the beautiful San Juan islands. The tail end of my trip involved meeting a family who has donated a lot to my classroom in their beautiful house in Microsoft-land, Washington. Ah, the beautiful Puget Sound. It was so great to see my old stomping grounds and re-live college, if only for a few days.

The following week was a mix of playing with my mom's friends daughters, Pepe, doing odds and ends around both parental abodes and seeing cousins/friends for a last few hurrahs. I genuinely loved my summer in Eugene. Lake swimming, Humble bagels, Sweet Life desserts, Pepe, Sabella and Hanna, Dad's chocolate frosted lattes, mom's Tivo and super comfy bed....I was always just busy enough, and saw many people I dearly miss while living so far away.

The conclusion of my summer was nothing short of epic. I went on a transportation extravaganza- Eugene to San Fran by Amtrak; San Fran to Lake Almanor roundtrip by Aden's Subaru WRX; San Fran to Bart Station by Taxi; Bart to Millbrae; Caltrain to Mountain View; Rico's house by car; taxi to Airport. Exhausting!

Enough of that, let's talk about the awesomeness that was Angie Cashman's wedding. Angie is like my big sis, a senior on the UPS vball team when I was a froshie, and later my assistant coach. I had been looking forward to the wedding all summer, but bittersweetly knew the Lake Almanor excursion would mark the end of my fabulous summer. So I lived it up hardcore! Bunked in a house with 7 vball girls/other friends of the bride, and their fiances/spouses. The one other single girl and I tried to represent! The house was beautiful and it was fun to catch up with girls I hadn't seen in a couple years.

Rolled into Lake Almanor on Wednesday, just in time for the Cashman family talent show in the parking lot of the Frosty, the burger joint I worked at the summer after my freshman year at UPS ('02). Memories from my summer on the lake came flooding back. I was especially excited to make my first cross-lake bar run to Plumas Pines, for the first time since being 21. I used to have to watch movies at the house while the other girls went out : ( Plumas Pines was fun.... but my fav part was obviously the pre-bar bachelorette party at a lady's house who has a vintage pac-man machine and knows Chuck Norris. I was thoroughly entertained with her.

Thursday was a chill day- I got some quality boat time with my favorite past time ever- TUBING! So fun. A Wisconsin-style barbecue was delicious.

Friday was wedding day. The whole morning was spent helping Angie's friend assemble hors-deurves like goat-cheese fig toast, fish and chips and bruschetta...yummy.... I was thrilled to have a personal touch on the wedding preparations as well. The wedding itself was unforgettable.... orange/pink themed...usually my least favorite colors but beautiful in this context. Angie looked stunning and the whole bridal party was amazing. The wedding was right on the waterfront and the reception was in huge tents in the Frosty parking lot. I don't think about weddings much, but I would love to base my own wedding off this one.... so beautiful, with lots of little personal touches in the decorations, etc. DJ was great, open bar (trouble!) and tons of dancing. I also saw the Mexican women Dibza and Alicia that I worked with that summer, and the Bash family who I befriended while there. Such great memories... The drive back to San Fran was rough the next day, but totally worth it in a heart beat.

I can't believe that wedding was just last Friday! So much has happened in the 8 days I've been back in NOLA, but I'll have to save that for another time...

Cheers from New Orleans,
Sarah
