New year, new challenges- but Mardi Gras is just around the corner!

Halfway through the year! A new challenge awaits me ....7th grade! I have never taught it, but luckily it should not be too different. I taught sixth in the fall, so it should flow right into seventh, theoretically. I have been successfully putting off working for a number of days. My luggage was lost for 8 days, so I had an excuse. Now it is back, so no more excuses and time for me to hit it!

I start 7th grade tomorrow. We told the kids who would be moving (accelerating) to 7th grade on Friday. Reaction was normal- a couple stormed around the room, three cried for sadness, three cried for happiness, and a bunch of kids just looked defeated. Most of them knew they slacked off. I am very stressed out and overwhelmed... the new schedule is a kick in the pants. I have really overextended myself this year with all kinds of committees, tutoring, a job as a seminar leader helping teachers get certified. And the damn spelling bee! (That is over this month, thank God). When people would complain in college that there were not enough hours in the day, I always thought to myself, "No, you are just not being efficient enough." Well, I definitely feel that now- how do I get everything done? I try to slow down and take one thing at a time, but I am absolutely overbooked. Just got back from vacation and so excited for MLK day already.

New Orleans has been having crazy weather! It was like 70 degrees and sunny yesterday. (Not that I am enjoying the outdoors much :( ) I am enjoying volleyball on Friday nights and continue my quest for non-teaching related activities, even if it's just a movie or a stupid reality show (there are so many on television right now!)

Gotta run- it's Sunday and I should be relaxing...but of course it's off to work instead.
